Your new digital camera produces marvellous pictures, at least as seen on your monitor.

But sometimes the photo is not quite right: it may need sharpening; the contrast curve may be too steep (too much sunlight)  or too shallow (grey skies); it may be too light or dark overall; or the colour balance is skewed towards one end of the spectrum (photos taken at sunset are especially prone to this).

You may want to remove something (that tree branch sticking out of little Mary's head?), or even someone you'd rather not be in your family photo (wicked aunt Morticia?).

You'd love to create large, eye-catching panoramas, or make a montage of parts of several shots.

Finally you may be disappointed with the quality of your prints, that come out blocky ("pixellated") or don't quite fit the size of paper you're using.

These are just a few of the tasks you can accomplish in your "digital darkroom" - but this is a whole new (and quite steep) learning curve, and you're getting impatient.
