Many people, even those who've used PCs for a number of years, can find the task of buying a new PC quite daunting. The number of different bits and pieces that comprise a PC system can be confusing, to say nothing of the jargon. What's more the adverts (or the salesmen and women in your local PC superstore) often blind you with trivial "go faster stripes" made to sound as though they're the best thing since... Remember that competition is fierce and thus margins are squeezed, so their agenda (to sell you their highest-margin goods) will not always coincide with what's really best for your purposes. Often the "free" software is at best recently-upgraded stuff that's no longer sold, and at worst obsolete programs that are no longer supported and may even be less-than-compatible with the operating system. In any case you may well lose sight of the fact that you never really thought of that particular type of program when you considered buying a new PC! Bundled hardware (especially printers, scanners and cameras) are almost invariably lowest-quality items, often also last-year's models (if you're lucky). And most importantly, they may well be completely unsuitable for your purposes! What we do is firstly assess your "musts and wants", now and in the near future, in great depth. These will be coupled with your level of experience and expertise, and any existing software and/or hardware you want to keep (or is used at your child's school?). Then conditioned by your budget, we will jointly put together a specification of your ideal target system (i.e. PC, peripherals, software). Then we'll look for affordable best-of-breed components on the market (both web-based and on-the-ground), and identify what to buy and where. Ideally you'll do the buying yourself (with our assistance). The same goes for the expanding interest and market for digital cameras - really a case of the blind leading the deaf (no offence meant - but it conveys the meaning!). Believe me, that 1.3 megapixel camera you've been told is just what you want, is really not worth buying - the largest reasonable print you can obtain would be too small to be of any use except for passport photos! Remember, what you pay us for our time in doing this is all we earn - we will never ever be in the position of conflict of interest by accepting commissions or other incentives from any manufacturer or retailer.
